THE BEACH
The sun continues to rise, and breakfast is cooking over the fire. Kasheena is preparing some rabbit that one of the tribesmen caught earlier in the morning.
Maximus had changed his clothes to make himself appear as one of the tribesmen. He walked toward the fire and smiled at Kasheena.
The pleasant aroma awakens the rest of the tribe, and they too come forward each one to get his portion.
The tribesmen talk amongst themselves, wondering how long it will be before they load the boat. Moossoul is not there, but soon arrives with some men in uniform. . . .

As Jake and Laura rose up from their chairs, little Karen retreated quickly from the door so she would not be suspected. Running down the hall, she waited near the front door by a side corridor. As Jake and Laura left the office, a concerned look passed from Laura’s eyes to Jake’s. The couple headed leisurely toward the front door. Their suspicions grew as Karen suddenly tugged on Laura’s dress from her hiding place, and informed Laura, “The boy you are looking for, Hey Jones. He’s here.”
Laura knelt down at eye level with the child and inquisitively asked, “He is?”
Karen nodded her head. “Mm hm, he’s tied my shoes for me,” she answered as she hugged her worn out teddy bear. “And he ties teddy’s shoes too. Doesn’t he teddy?” Karen then took off down the hallway.
“That’s peculiar,” Jake remarked.
As Jake reached for the doorknob, Laura put her hand on his and voiced her concern. “I had a feeling that when she was talking to us she wasn’t telling us the whole story.”. . . .

The Angry Bear that Kills
CHAPTER 1 “HEY JONES THE BEAR” It is late autumn 1971. The morning air is cool and the sun has not yet fully risen above the horizon. A heavy dew and hazy fog cover the muddy earth. The air is filled with the sounds of running feet and crackling branches. It is a young woman, only seventeen years old. Blood runs down her inner thighs and her breath comes short and hard. She is being chased by a black bear, which is following the heavy scent of blood hanging thick on the breeze. The young woman is eight and a half months pregnant. She stumbles awkwardly and squatting drops to her hands and knees in the thick layer of mud and fallen leaves. With tears dripping down her face, she screams out at the top of her lungs. “Help, someone help me!” Her jaw quivers with fear. The black bear is quickly approaching, but then pauses because a sudden change in the wind causes him to lose the scent. The woman quietly whimpers as she grips her arm around a tree and hides, but the birth pains are too great and she screams. The bear hears and follows the sound, finding once again the scent of blood….”
